Google Web History

Posted on June 18, 2009 by webmaster

googleI noticed this problem a few weeks back, my Google searches consistently returned different results in different web browsers. At first I thought maybe Google served different browsers with different servers, and perhaps these had got out of sync, or the Mac Safari servers we slow to update, until I found the Google web history settings in my Google account. I didn’t even know I had this feature, and certainly wasn’t aware it could be disabled.

I turned web history off in my google account, and now searches on Mac and PC and using IE, Firefox and Safari are identical. However, for those of you that like to keep the Web History feature active, you can check the performance of keywords in many different ways, but try this great free utility; SEOCENTRO.

I know that Google delivers slightly different results to different people , but should it be so different as to impact your SEO efforts.

The thing is, whilst testing my SEO efforts, the results were untrue because Google effectively knew I was in Cambridge from my browser history…
