Raised Vegetable Planters
Posted on May 20, 2009 by webmaster
It seemed only natural that after moving into a new house with a much larger garden, that we dedicated an area to growing our own vegetables, partly for the childs education, partly to save some money, partly to enjoy growing our own. I started my search immediately for some suitable raised planters, only to find that they were so expensive, it would take years to get any return on the home grown produce…
Products from £37 - http://www.gardeningdirect.co.uk/Timber-Grow-Bed-/XH1086,default,pd.html
£140 here - http://www.gardenplanters.org.uk/store/upload/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=40
£165 here - http://www.raised-gardenbeds.co.uk/ourshop/prod_46882-1200mm-x-1800mm-x-360mm-high-2-Plank-High.html
A good selection from £40 here - http://www.elbecgardenbuildings.co.uk/Veggie-Beds?gclid=CILflZCxzZoCFRk_awodTgqd3A
So, another DIY project coming on I feel..
A quantity of three lengths of 4800mm x 25 x 150 boards, costing £13 from Ridgeons, and one length of 3600mm x 25 x 50 at £2 for the corner posts, produced two large beds each measuring 30cm high, 150cm deep and 90cm wide. Far cheaper, far better and far more rewarding than buying from the high street – and took probably only 1 hour to complete.
Ok, you might want to include the other materials too (screws), and lets not forget the fuel to Ridgeons, also the saw and elbow-grease, but come on, would you really want to spend upwards of £40 for a wooden box?!
